Thanks for your interest in the 2010 Labor Notes Conference.
Scholarship criteria:
Our scholarships are allocated on an individual-need basis with consideration also given to the demographics of those requesting. Labor Notes is interested in supporting the attendance of people of color, low-wage workers, immigrants, women, and striking/locked-out workers. This year we're also encouraging working people under the age of 30 to come.
Please keep in mind that Labor Notes organizes this conference on a relatively small budget. We do what we can to provide scholarships--and fundraise for more--but our funds dry up quickly. Apply early if you need assistance and contact us if you have ideas for grassroots fundraising to help cover your group's costs.
What to expect in terms of costs:
- The conference registration cost is $115 or $85 if registered by February 19. This includes the Saturday night banquet dinner, Saturday and Sunday morning coffee and pastries and entrance to all sessions and educational materials.
- Day rates are also available for partial attendance. Contact us.
- Meals that are not included can be purchased from various locations at a range of prices.
- Labor Notes scholarships typically pay a portion or all of the conference registration fee. Please indicate what you can pay to help facilitate your scholarship.
- Lodging costs are not included in the registration fee. Rooms at the Conference hotel, the Hyatt Regency Dearborn, can hold up to four people (in two beds) to share at the per night rates. We can help you find a roommate or a home stay in the area to help defer costs. Call Sally at 313-842-6262 or email conference [at] labornotes [dot] org to make these arrangements.
We will be awarding scholarships on January 7, February 2, March 1 and every Monday thereafter.
Please fill out the following scholarship application so we can consider your request. Once we know more about your needs, we can better determine a fair allocation of the limited scholarship resources available.
The Julius Margolin "Youth in Labor" fund has generously offered to make some scholarship money available for people under 30 to attend the conference. If you are under 30, write to jane [at] labornotes [dot] org for an application form. Deadline to submit the application is March 31.
The completed scholarship request questionnaire below can be emailed to Jane Slaughter at jane [at] labornotes [dot] org or mailed to: Labor Notes, 7435 Michigan Ave, Detroit MI 48210. We hope to see you at the upcoming Conference!
